The last Rocky Mountain Showdown for five years between Colorado and Colorado State occurred last Saturday. Colorado shook off a lethargic first half and took advantage of two second half interceptions to surge to a 28-9 victory. Travis Hunter once again proved he is a unique player in college football, grabbing two touchdown catches and an interception. The interception was particularly athletic as he broke on the ball before the receiver and snatched it from his grasp. Colorado takes on Baylor this weekend at home.

Colorado State hosted Middle Tennessee State yesterday in football. It was supposed to be an easy win for CSU in coach Jay Norvell’s home debut but ended up turning into a loss. MTSU jumped out to a 34-0 lead in the third. The Rams stormed back and pushed the ball all the way down to the Blue Raider’s 10 down 34-19. But a block below the waist derailed their momentum and CSU then missed a field goal. All in all it was an entertaining game.

Colorado State rallied from a 27-9 deficit early in the third quarter to capture their first win of the season over Arkansas Saturday in college football. Quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels led a late rally and running back Izzy Matthews crossed the goal line with a two-yard run to seal the victory, 34-27. After a shaky start to the third quarter, CSU’s defense played better and shut down a tough Razorback rushing attack.

I photographed the inaugural football game at Colorado State Stadium between CSU and Oregon State. The new football field is beautiful and CSU sent the fans home happy with a 58-27 victory.

The Mike Bobo era at Colorado State got off to a good start Saturday. Â The Rams defeated Savannah State 65-13. Â Despite 5 turnovers, Colorado State looked dominant. Â Of course, Savannah State was 0-12 last year so we’ll see how good the Rams actually are when they play Minnesota. Â The game featured some big plays particularly by Rams quarterback Nick Stevens who tossed 5 touchdowns. Â Colorado State football looks to be competitive again this year and should be one of the best teams in the Mountain West.
