  • Colorado USC Football 2019

Colorado gave USC everything they wanted Friday night at Folsom Field but it wasn’t enough as USC used a late touchdown to rally 35-31. CU had several explosive plays on the night including a long touchdown catch by Laviska Shenault. The Buffaloes led most of the night in a seesaw battle, but USC scored with under two minutes left to take the lead back for good. Penalties and mistakes by CU did them in once again. They had a chance to seal the game on USC’s critical last drive but couldn’t come up with an interception on a deflected pass nor recover a fumble.

  • Colorado Nebraska Football 2019

Nebraska and 30,000 of its faithful traveled to Boulder to take on Colorado in NCAA football yesterday. 30,125 people went home unhappy. In what will become a game of legend, CU stormed back in the second half to win in OT, 34-31.

Trailing 17-0 at halftime after a lackluster performance, Colorado made the necessary adjustments and shut down the Cornhuskers offense for much of the second half. The turning point came on a 96-yard flea flicker. The trick play fooled the Nebraska defense and QB Stephen Montez threw a perfect strike to pull the Buffs within 3, 17-14. He also hit Tony Brown for a 26 yard touchdown with :46 left to tie the score at 31. On the day, Montez threw for 375 yards.

That set the stage for the improbable finish. The Buffs got the ball first in overtime and settled for a field goal. Nebraska then got the ball but QB Aaron Martinez was sacked on third down, setting up a game-tying 49 yard field goal attempt. The kick never had a chance and missed badly to the right, sending the CU faithful rushing onto the field to celebrate.

  • Colorado Washington State Football 2018

Colorado lost its fifth straight football game Saturday, going down 31-7 to Washington State. The Cougars dominated the clock with a short passing game and rolled off 31 unanswered points after CUJ took a 7-0 lead on a Travon McMillan three-yard touchdown run. Gardner Minshew, the mustachioed QB, led Washington State with 300+ yards passing. The Cougars methodical attack eventual wore down the Buffs defense in the second half. CU plays Utah next Saturday at Folsom Field in Boulder.

  • Colorado Arizona State Football 2018

I photographed the Colorado Arizona State football game in Boulder yesterday.  The Buffs defeated the Sun Devils 28-21 to improve to 5-0 for the first time since the 1990s.  Laviska Shenault had a huge day, producing 3 touchdowns both running and receiving. The game featured a number of big plays on both sides. But Colorado got the stops they needed when it counted in the fourth quarter.

  • CU vs USC Football 2017

USC defeated Colorado in football 38-24 at Folsom Field.  USC quarterback Sam Darnold looks like the real deal as he threw for over 300 yards and ran for a long touchdown.

  • Colorado Colorado State Football 2017

Photographs from the Rocky Mountain Showdown between Colorado and Colorado State football.  CU won 17-3 but CSU had three offensive pass interference penalties called against them.  It was an entertaining college football game and looks like both programs will be respectable this year.

  • Colorado Washington State Football 2016

Colorado football is back in the national spotlight for the first time in over a decade after defeating the Cougars 38-24 Saturday at Folsom Field.  I photographed the Colorado Washington State football game and it featured a number of big plays and a fair number of near misses  There had to be at least a half dozen overthrows or dropped passes on long throws.  But all in all it was an exciting game to cover.

  • Colorado vs Oregon Football

I  photographed the Colorado vs Oregon football game this past weekend.  Colorado hung tough against Oregon for a half Saturday but the Ducks pulled away late to win 41-24.  The game was delayed for an hour by lightning.  It was one late night.  College football games should not get over past midnight.  The Buffs look better this year but still don’t seem to be able to pull out victories against higher ranked teams.
