There is nothing better than an upset bid in sports. Last night, the Erie boy’s basketball team gave everything it had to take down ninth-ranked Horizon. But Erie’s dream died at the buzzer as Callen Gebhardt’s jumper in the lane rimmed out as time expired. The Hawks had led most of the night until Erie surged ahead 50-48, with under a minute left. But Horizon’s Noah Sokolowski hit a put back and converted the and 1 to put Horizon up 1, 51-50 with just a few seconds remaining.

Legacy Broomfield Boy’s Basketball 2022
It’s difficult for lightning to strike twice but that’s exactly what happened for the Legacy Lightning boy’s basketball team against Broomfield tonight. Legacy clawed back from a 9 point deficit with 5:41 to go to defeat Broomfield on a last-second three. This is the second time Broomfield has lost at home in heart-breaking fashion. They dropped a close one to Centaurus earlier this year in similar fashion at the buzzer.

Broomfield Centaurus Boy’s Basketball 2021
It is not often a boy’s basketball game comes down to the last shot to decide victory. But on Thursday night, Centaurus dug down deep and came away with a 45-44 victory in the CHSAA 4A contest. Centaurus’s Levi Rubin sank a three-pointer with :01 left on the clock to give the Warriors the win. It was the last of 3 three-pointers in the final 1:30 to erase an 8-point deficit to secure the win. The Centaurus students in attendance mobbed Rubin after the clock expired.
Broomfield controlled much of the action after halftime to pull out to a 44-36 lead. But senior center Kevin Bedford was the difference defensively for the Warriors. He blocked several shots down the stretch, paving the way for Centaurus comeback. the Warriors are now 9-0 on the year.

Broomfield Legend Boy’s Basketball 2018
I photographed the boy’s basketball game this week between Broomfield and Legend. Broomfield got down by 14 early but stormed back to get within 2 in the second half. Legend took advantage of some late turnovers to secure the win in the final minutes. I always enjoy photographing Steve Croell for Broomfield who seems to hang in the air after some tough drives to the basket.

Bear Creek vs Green Mountain Basketball Pepsi Center
I had the chance to photograph the boy’s basketball game between Green Mountain and Bear Creek at the Pepsi Center earlier this week. The Nuggets sponsor an annual series of games that give high school teams a chance to play at the Pepsi Center. It was a lot of fun to cover. Bear Creek won this matchup and shut down Green Mountain from the start. It is always fun to shoot a game under the good lighting of the Pepsi Center in comparison to most high school gyms.
