The second round of playoffs is not usually a time for major upsets but 2 happened this week in the Colorado High School Girl’s Soccer playoffs. First, #1 seed Broomfield lost to #16 seed Rock Canyon, 1-0. Rock Canyon came out the aggressor and never let up to put away the game. On Saturday, #21 seed Vail Mountain School shocked #5 seed Stargate School with 3 goals in the last 5 minutes of regulation to pull out the 4-3 victory in dramatic come-from-behind fashion. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many goals in such little time. Can’t wait for the finals in the 22nd.
I photographed the CHSAA 2A and 3A girl’s soccer finals at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park last night. Dawson School defeated Denver Christian 3-2 and Jefferson Academy outlasted Kent Denver 2-1 in a shootout in the 3A final. The nightcap was very evenly matched as the two teams traded second half goals before going scoreless in the two overtime periods. Jefferson won the penalty kick round to take home the trophy.
Broomfield defeated Columbine Wednesday to advance to the 5A girl’s soccer semifinals. Columbine struck first with a goal 12 minutes into the second half. The lead stood up until Broomfield redirected a corner kick with 2:39 left to tie it at 1-1. Then Broomfield scored quickly in overtime to win the match and advance.
I photographed the 5A girls’ soccer playoff game between Legacy and Regis last night. It was a fantastic contest with a number of shots by both sides. Regis prevailed 1-0 with a pretty goal deflection off a corner kick in the second half.
The playoffs are here for spring sports in Colorado. Â I covered the 5A girl’s soccer game between Broomfield and Chaparral last night in Broomfield. Â The Eagles won easily, 6-0. Â I got some amazing action shots, particularly of Chaparral’s goalie who was under constant pressure. Â Enjoy!
I always enjoy those athletic contests that come down to the last play. Â The Legacy vs Eaglecrest girls soccer game in Westminster was no exception yesterday. Â Eaglecrest pulled out a crazy one with an incredible goal kick with :12 left in overtime.
I don’t normally post individual high school games on my blog, but the girl’s soccer game between Mountain Range and Fossil Ridge today had a lot of drama for a high school game so I thought I’d post it. Â It had everything from great saves to key goals and emotional celebrations.
